Here are some area attractions to visit and other activities to keep your busy. 

Find peace and beauty.  Visit the Elizabethan Gardens. Every season brings a fresh and exciting array of flowering shrubs, plants and trees.  Masses of blooming azaleas, dogwoods, rhododendrons, vines, herbs and bulbs peak around the middle of April.  Sweet scented roses, magnolias, crape myrtle, hydrangeas and bedding plants bring color to the summer garden.  Annuals, impatiens and chrysanthemums are features in the Autumn months.  Spectacular camellias and daphne bloom late fall and winter.  Open all year.

Look for Black Bears.  During the summer months you can drive the wildlife road in Alligator River NWR during the evening and see LOTS of black bears from your car.  Its free. Its' only a 15 minute drive from Manteo.

Listen for a Red Wolf Howling.  Alligator River NWR sponsors Red Wolf Howlings every month for most of the year.
